songs by Linda Vegh

Tears Don't Come (but Jesus, You do)

For You

Here we go. I am finally posting the other 2 songs I wrote. I'm really pleased with my progress. Less than a year ago I started playing guitar. Now I'm a song-writer.

Some people probably think I shouldn't post any songs unless everything is perfect.  I completely disagree.  These are my songs from my heart.  No, they aren't perfect, but none of us are, and nothing we do is perfect.  But this is the gift that God gave me, and I refuse to be ashamed of it, or worse yet, to make excuses for my imperfections.  Jesus loves me and my songs.

The logic follows that if we wait to share our gifts until we are perfect, there would never be anything shared.  No art, no music, no teaching, no preaching, no nothin'.  We all give what we have.  And it's when we stop giving that we stop growing in our gift.  I'm thankful for the few people in my life who have continued to love and encourage me, during every step of my progress.  I thank God for those who have shared a kind word; a simple "good job", or "sounds great", or "beautiful voice."  Without those truly encouraging words, I would have thrown in the towel ages ago.  It's important in any walk of life, to surround yourself with people who lift you up, and see moments of greatness in you, people who know how to say a kind word to you.  It's important to stay away from those who just want to drag you down by their negative "honesty".   Everyone needs positive feedback along their journey!!

We all know that it's very, VERY hard to have confidence, especially in the music world.  Every bit of negativity counteracts the positive comments by a mile.  I may hear 10 great compliments, but the falt-finders are like a kick in the gut that throw me and my confidence back 10 paces.  It's hard to get going again after you are kicked down time and time again.

So, the next time you see someone working hard at something, and even though they aren't perfect (they never will be), remember a kind word goes a very long way in their life.  It may be the difference between success, and well... giving up.

it's all about me

working on a new song on Mom and Dad's front porch
trying to record my song
stinky, germy dog kiss...ew
So I was able to spend a few days down in West Virginia with Mom and Dad.  It was super nice to hang out with them, and enjoy veggies from their garden.  I enjoyed taking walks, writing music, playing guitar, and singing.  I did not, however, enjoy the 7 1/2 hour drive to their house, and 6 1/2 hours on the way home, with rain and fog.  I probably won't be doing that again any time soon, but at least I know I'm able.  And it helped me learn to drive my new car a little better.  I did an absolutely perfect job of parallel parking in town.  You should have seen it.

It looks like I am going to attempt to play guitar (and sing of course) for songs at camp.  I really have no idea how that will turn out.. but I'm hoping it is a good experience, and not something I will regret.  Tomorrow I'm getting an amp, so I'm pretty excited about that.  I will be able to use it for my guitar or my mic, depending on what I'm doing.  I still want to get a good recording of my second song.  Each time I sing it, there's something I mess up, so I'm not going to post it, like I did with the first song.  I really must do a lot of work on my vocals, as well as my guitar!

Today I made some lovely tomato sauce... and man was it delish... wow.  I'm also harvesting a lot of my herbs for drying.  It will be so cool to have them to use all winter.  Really looking forward to the end result.  Well, the garden is doing pretty good.  We are getting lots of ripe things now... pretty soon we will have our first watermelon!!  Really, how cool is that?

I know I'm forgetting things I wanted to write, but it's late, so what do you expect?

He's Got Me Covered

I'm so proud of my first song! I "finished" it while we were in Michigan with the boys. We had a rushed time of recording it in the hotel in the morning before we left Grand Rapids, but it sure meant a lot to me that Ryan wanted to do this with me (he plays it way better than I do)!  My family loves this song and they are so surprised and excited for me for doing such a good job on my very first song.

To all you "perfect" critics out there, I know this is not a professionally recorded video, but it is my video, my song, my memory with my family, and I am so happy with my accomplishment!

I just completed my second song while I'm here in West Virginia visiting my mom and dad. I would like to get a video recording of it while I'm here, if possible, just to memorialize it.

I am discovering that writing songs is a great release for me; a good way to express things that otherwise go unsaid. I used to write a good bit of poetry (like Ryan), so the writing aspect of it isn't entirely new to me. I'm already looking forward to writing my next one. I can't wait to get started on it because I'm going to go in an entirely different direction with it.

Here Goes Nothing

I forgot to post this earlier, this is a video from the service where Ryan was leading worship.  He was asked to sing one of his original songs at the start of the service.  It was a beautiful song and a very awesome time of worship with him leading it.  Best one of the summer.

Here Goes Nothing

So, While I'm posting videos, here are a couple of them from VBS.  Ryan was playing Dr. Paws.

And here are a couple of videos from Mike's wedding. :)

Well, there you have it!

our last day with the boys
Birthday cake we brought all the way to Grand Rapids...

Got home from Michigan last night.  Feels like we did a lot in a week.

We had fun with Austin. (forgot to take pictures)
We went to a very long wedding/reception.
We went to the park.
We went to Plato's Closet.
We went to a few restaurants.
We visited with the Rolff's.  (Had a great time! forgot to take pictures)
We visited Aunt Vi's church.
We had lobster rolls in Boston.
We ate too much.

I'm glad to be home, even though it is utterly quiet here today.   I'm sort of taking my time getting in the groove again.  Taking things slow, to figure out where I want my life to go... think I may start looking at houses in Grand Rapids to see what is available.

When we got home we discovered that our freezer had died and all our meat was smelly and disgusting.  We were gagging cleaning up the mess.   Can't seem to get the smell out of my nostrils.  Discovered some really cool beetles that love dead animals.
