Hilo

We spent 2 days in Hilo due to the fires in Maui.  The ship never went to Maui on our cruise but that was fine with us.  We took a bus tour of Hilo.  We visited some sights. Later we were invited to a VIP cocktail reception to meet the captain.  We also saw a part of a show.  More pictures will be in another post after this.
Sitting on lava.

Our ship in the background.

More lava.  Well, it was everywhere.

Liliuokalani Park and Gardens

Banyan trees everywhere.

Still at the park

Golden Rain Tree

Black sand beach (Onekahakaha Beach).  Glad were were wearing water shoes!  This stuff is rough.  This was a tiny "beach".  We went to another beach as well but forgot to take any pictures.

The Cadillac diner on the ship.

By this point we were both exhausted and very sea sick.

Crazy meal at the Cadillac diner.  Obviously fish and chips on the left which Darryl got, but mine is called Loco Moco, a Hawaiin dish consisting of white rice, brown gravy, spam and an egg.  It was pretty yummy.

This was part of a show we were able to watch before we headed to the VIP event.

The Captain actually walked us to the event because we were a little lost.  He was nice.  He told us that because our suite was in the very front of the ship that we would feel every bump...and we did.  We were sick practically the whole trip.

Our steward (Ryan) made these for us every day.

Library on the ship, where we met the captain.
